CEO & Founder

Pierre Jacobs

Pierre is a CA(SA) with 27 years of experience in financial services. He conducted advisory and assurance engagements primarily for corporate and investment banks, unsecured lenders, stockbrokers, and large corporate treasuries across Africa, the UK, Europe, USA, Middle East, India, and Australia.
He served as a partner in financial services at KPMG for 23 years, including as the co-head of their Financial Engineering Group, specialising in the audit, accounting, and valuation of financial instruments and derivatives. During this period, he resided in London for 7.5 years.

A Leader in African Capital Markets and Financial Advisory

In 2019, he transitioned to BDO, where he expanded the firm’s financial services practice from 14 to 250 employees in three years. In 2022, he assumed the role of CEO at Kendal Investment Partners, a boutique capital markets, and advisory firm. Pierre has extensive experience leading and managing large teams, with a particular focus on the banking industry in Africa, including Kenya, Namibia, Botswana, Ghana, Uganda, Rwanda, Mozambique, Zambia, Malawi, Egypt, and Morocco.
In 2023, Pierre leveraged his corporate experience to establish his own capital markets and financial advisory business, aiming for greater flexibility and a focus on high-end client service. Recently, Pierre was appointed as the project lead for a comprehensive investment review of a significant portion of an East African Sovereign Wealth Fund’s portfolio companies or investments, spanning various sectors such as financial services, agriculture, technology, manufacturing, and logistics.

A Journey of Leadership in Banking and Investment

Throughout his career, Pierre has worked with major clients including Nedbank, Investec, ABSA, RMB, Old Mutual, Prescient Group, Bank Zero, Bayport, Finbond, Deutsche Bank, Citibank, Bank of New York-Mellon, Futures and Options Exchange of Europe, Bank of India, Standard Chartered Bank, State Bank of India, Texas Pacific Private Equity Group, BHP Billiton Treasury, and Eskom Treasury. He also engaged with Equity Bank, Co-op Bank of Kenya, SBM Bank, and Sidian Bank.
His natural ability to teach and mentor led him to deliver guest lectures at the University of Cape Town, University of Pretoria, and University of Witwatersrand, focusing on international trends in investment banking. Additionally, he served as the chairman of KPMG’s global banking course for new entrants into the banking sector for several years.

Duan Steenkamp

Duan’s background

Duan is a CA(SA). He acquired significant technical expertise during his academic journey, focusing on accounting, tax, audit, financial analysis, and modelling.

As he embarked on his professional career, he further honed his skills by applying accounting, tax, and assurance standards across various industries and entities, including listed companies.

During his tenure at BDO from 2021 to 2023, Duan gained hands-on experience in financial analysis and modelling for businesses. His strengths lie in navigating complex finance and accounting regulations, leading teams effectively, and fostering strong interpersonal relationships. He consistently strives for excellence and places immense value on organizational culture.

Duan was a key part of the Rwandan Sovereign Wealth Fund‘s portfolio companies/investments project team for the period February to August 2024. His work included historical financial analysis, financial modelling, valuations, and benchmarking.

Start-ups
Duan’s current live advisory work includes financial advisory engagements like turnaround strategies, strategy development, equity valuations, investor-readiness and due diligence support. Some of the businesses include: Safer Power Limited (Kenya), Pink Mango (Manufacturing – Rwanda), Matlafin (Fintech – RSA), Power Nex (Manufacturing and distribution).

Nico van Beeck

Nico van Beeck has built a solid foundation in financial accounting, budgeting, and cost management through his academic studies and professional experience to date. He has successfully applied his skills across various sectors, developing significant expertise in financial management and strategic planning.

During his tenure at SNG Grant Thornton from 2020 to 2023, Nico gained practical experience in accounting, auditing, tax, independent reviews, and financial control environments.

His strengths include navigating complex financial regulations, leading financial teams, and fostering strong professional relationships.
More recently Nico played an important role at three clients where he was responsible for restructuring and optimizing the existing financial operations. Nico was crucial in establishing and implementing the necessary processes, controls, and policies to ensure successful integration and operational success.

From a capital markets perspective, Nico has been part of the team supporting his clients with obtaining long-term funding, designing an optimal capital structure, negotiating and preparing for international grant funding, and supporting clients with due diligence processes.
His work to date includes both South Africa and Rwanda in East Africa. Nico is committed to excellence and values a positive organizational culture.

Head of Marketing & Business Administration

Dolores Nasis

Dolores has played an instrumental role in the investment review of an East African Sovereign Wealth Fund’s portfolio companies/investments. Her responsibilities included content design, finalizing, and reviewing both market research reports and comprehensive information memorandums. She also played a key part in the overall project management of reviewing almost 30 portfolio companies.
Other recent work experiences included contributing to management reports, teasers, and information memorandums for clients in South Africa and Kenya, spanning sectors such as waste management, packaging, fintech, and trucking. In her role as Head of Marketing, she is responsible for website design and monitoring, as well as managing social media platforms. Dolores’ background:

Driving Brand Consistency and Cohesion

Dolores has over 30 years of business administration experience and was a member of the KPMG Marketing Steering Committee. During this time, Dolores oversaw the purchasing of corporate and promotional merchandise, negotiated with suppliers, and ensured brand consistency in signage, furniture, and image.
During her tenure in marketing, Dolores assisted in setting up the elite KPMG Running Club, acting as Club Secretary to ensure smooth administration, managing memberships, correspondence, event registrations, travel arrangements, and running kits.

Jacques de Necker

Jacques is a CA(SA). He gained significant technical expertise during his academic and auditing journeys, including accounting, tax, audit, financial analysis and modelling.

During his articles at BDO Inc from 2021 to 2023, Jacques gained experience in financial analysis, improving financial position, risk identification and management, team management and working diligently towards deadlines. His strengths lie in navigating complex finance and accounting regulations, leading teams effectively, and fostering strong interpersonal relationships. He consistently strives for excellence and places significant value on organizational culture and maintaining professional relationships.

Jacques has experience working with three listed entities, two in the manufacturing sector and one in mining. This gave him exposure to the listing requirements, head office reporting and complex consolidations.

While doing project management he got exposed to various other factors in a business giving an advantage to think outside the “financial” box. This also gave him consulting exposure in mainly importing and exporting logistics within the medical industry.

More recently he is working with a project team in East Africa in support of a United Kingdom investment fund and the local development board to explore potential investment opportunities in the wood, agricultural and waste management industries in East Africa.

Jacques is also part of the team that is fund raising for a client in the entertainment industry in South Africa, and same for another client in the manufacturing industry in Kenya, where Jacques is also supporting the financial management function.

His responsibilities relating to his recent engagements include market research, operational and financial modelling and drafting of marketing material.

Jacques is a driven individual who displays natural leadership abilities, not only on the professional front but also in his day-to-day life. He likes a challenge, is task orientated and focussed in working towards his personal goals.
